Finaid is a great site for more info and comparisons:

Please make sure you have exhausted all of your other options first, though since private loans do not have the advantages of federal loans. You probably qualify for at least a small amount of an Unsubsidized Stafford loan no matter what your income or EFC is, so get that first and then add on private loans to make up the difference.

Your best bet is the federal student loan program. It has low interest and really good repayment terms. You can apply by completing the federal application at http://www. fafsa. ed. gov.

If you have already borrowed through the federal program and need an additional private loan, the interest rates vary from lender to lender based on your credit score and if you are applying with a cosigner. You’re best option would be to go to various lenders websites and fill out a pre-approval form. Then you know exactly what interest rate the lender can offer you.

Federal Stafford Loans both sub-sidivised and divised. Check with a Wachovia Bank if have one in your local area, cause they have excellent student loans.
